A Review: SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #1 from BOOM! Studios. The story is written by James Tynion IV; with art by Werther Dell’edera, colors by Miquel Muerto, and lettering by Andworld Design.

Welcome to Archer’s Peak; a community that in recent weeks has seven several kids dead or missing. James is one of the lucky ones (if you can call him that), he returned. Life is upside down for everyone, especially James. As if the survivor’s guilt wasn’t enough, friends of those lost take out their anger on the young man. It was then a mysterious young woman came to town and finds James. She asks him to tell his story…what he actually saw, not the story he told the police. After hearing his horrific tale, she tells him that there is a monster in the woods. She is there to kill it…

This is another winner from the writer that brought you THE WOODS. The story just pulls you in and doesn’t let go…no that you want to. It’s really a slow burn; it gives you enough info page by page where you have to know where things go next. Dell’edera and Muerto’s visuals make even the straightforward, mundane scenes unsettling and moody, perfect for this chilling horror mystery. Get on board the train now while you can.
