A Review: RESURRECTIONISTS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of RESURRECTIONISTS #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Fred Van Lente writes, Mauricio Rosenzweig draws and Moreno Dinisio inks and colors.

Jericho Way is a thief. Not a petty thief, though; he steals the good stuff. The current job is the Book of the Dead, an ancient Egyptian artifact. The weird thing is that now he’s having very realistic dreams about a past life, and he feels drawn to the scroll somehow. Something strange is happening to him – or has happened to him – and he’s only now starting to see it.

Lots of people claim that they can remember a past life. But what if it was real, and you could connect to it? It’s a cool take on the idea, and with Jericho we get the possibility of finding something that he lost in time, which is an interesting take on a quest story. And there are hints teasing us about others like Jericho. The art does an interesting job of showing tension without much action, something that’s not easy to do. Posture and facial expression are part of what makes it work, and it’s done well here.

This is a tough one to classify, but for me that’s a positive. Crime, history, general weirdness – take your pick. But pick up the book anyway.

RESURRECTIONISTS #1 is available now at your FLCS or at darkhorse.com.
