A Review: RAGNAROK #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of RAGNAROK #1 from IDW Publishing. Walter Simonson writes and draws, and Laura Martin colors.

Brynja is a black elf, an assassin by trade. One of the best alive, they say. She seeks her last job, the one that will allow her to retire with her family, protect her daughter from death. She is to kill the stone god at the edge of the world, sitting in his impenetrable fortress. But how does one kill a god?

This book is set in a time after the end, 300 years after Ragnarok, the Norse final battle. The gods are mostly dead, the world is dying, and the survivors struggle to keep living. The immortality Brynja seeks for her child means much more in this world, and the assassin risks everything to reach her goal. She’s an impressive character and she knows it. Killing a “dead” god should make for an interesting challenge for her.

This is a compelling tale of epic fantasy from one of the greats of the comics world. He’s still got it, and I can’t wait for the rest of this story.

RAGNAROK #1 is available now at your FLCS or at idwpublishing.com.
