A Review: STAR WARS: DARTH MAUL: SON OF DATHOMIR #2

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of STAR WARS: DARTH MAUL: SON OF DATHOMIR #2 from Dark Horse Comics. The story is by Jeremy Barlow, with pencils by Juan Frigeri, inks by Mauro Vargas, colors by Wes Dzioba, and lettering by Michael Heisler.

Darth Maul and his Mandalorian army are heading to Ord Mantell to meet with his other allies including The Black Sun criminal organization. There they devise a plan to eliminate their pursuers; Count Dooku, General Grievous, and the droid army. Meanwhile, the Count and General hatch their own plans to destroy the growing army, and to eliminate the Sith witch Mother Talzin. What they don’t know is there is a surprise waiting for them.

This has been a pretty cool mini-series so far. To see all the villains of the STAR WARS prequel battling each other is an interesting idea. Just because we know how it will end doesn’t mean it’s not worth taking the journey. And as usual the art from Frigeri, Vargas, and Dzioba is top notch. On a personal note, I am sad to see STAR WARS leave Dark Horse Comics. For the last 23 years, the publisher has put out some amazing stories taking place in that galaxy far, far away and I am grateful. The new/old owner of the keys has some pretty big shoes to fill.

STAR WARS: DARTH MAUL: SON OF DATHOMIR #2 is in stores now, or available for ordering at www.darkhorse.com.
