A Review: THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #1 from Image Comics. Kieron Gillen writes, Jamie McKelvie draws, and Matthew Wilson colors.

Laura’s plan to sneak out to see Amaterasu worked brilliantly. Passing out at the show and waking up with Luci standing over her was not part of the plan, though. But it did get her in to meet a roomful of these “gods.” One assassination attempt and a few exploding heads later, things are starting to get very interesting. What happens next, in court, is enough to confuse even Luci.

In a modern world where mythological beings manifest within young adults, only surviving for a couple of years, how long will it take for some serious destruction to take place? In this book, the answer is “not very long.” The premise is a really cool idea, and it’s handled very well so far. I like the introduction of a mystery this early on, a simple plotline that will allow us to get to know the characters. The “beautiful people,” if you will. And McKelvie sure does make them beautiful.

Gillen and McKelvie together again will make a lot of comics people happy. That this is an ongoing title will, too. I’m dying to see where they take this.

THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #1 is available now at your FLCS or at imagecomics.com.
