A Review: DREAM THIEF: ESCAPE #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of DREAM THIEF: ESCAPE #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Jai Nitz writes, and Greg Smallwood draws and colors.

John Lincoln is a regular guy. Well, other than the fact that in his sleep he gets possessed by dead people who then use his body to avenge their deaths. But now a convict is claiming to be possessed by John’s murdered father, who was also a dream thief. And while Lincoln has plans for the guy who killed him, there’s more to it than that.

Not surprisingly, John’s life is pretty complicated. He disappears for days at a time, not really remembering much (though he does get to know the ghosts). He’s got friends and family. And if he ever gets caught, he’s responsible for a good many murders. So he’s what you might call a benevolent vigilante. Which is a cool twist on the usual crime books out there. And I really like the facial expressions in this book; they really help build the characters throughout the issue.

This looks like it’s going to turn into a fun little heist story with some really unusual players. It should be a fun ride.

DREAM THIEF: ESCAPE #1 is available now at your FLCS or at darkhorse.com.
