A Review: DEADLY CLASS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of DEADLY CLASS #1 from Image Comics. Rick Remender writes, Wes Craig draws, and Lee Loughridge colors.

Marcus is having a pretty tough time of it – he’s fourteen and living on the streets. His parents are dead, he couldn’t make it in the boys’ home. But then one day something happens, and by something I mean people start trying to kill him. He gets rescued by a girl who then takes him to meet Master Lin, and from there it just gets weird.

This issue goes a long way to set up Marcus as a complicated character. There are hints of a lot of different problems that might come up later in the story, and I like the way it’s done here. I’m also curious as to why they chose to set it in 1987, and it will be fun finding out. The demonstration of Saya’s skills alone make this book interesting, and I look forward to watching Marcus’ training.

I love a book that gives me both story-driven elements and great action sequences (they don’t always go together). This book has great potential, so pick it up.

DEADLY CLASS #1 is available now at your FLCS and online at imagecomics.com.
