A Review: DOC SAVAGE #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of DOC SAVAGE #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. The story is by Chris Roberson, with illustrated by Bilquis Evely, colors by Daniela Miwa, and lettering by Rob Steen.

Doc Savage and his associates are trying to figure out why there are several incidences of people violently attacking each other. A mysterious aurora appears in the air and interference on the radios while the fights are going on. Savage must figure out what is going on, why it’s happening, and most importantly - who’s responsible.

You can definitely feel Roberson’s love of the character and his enthusiasm writing this adventure. He introduces all of Savage’s associates so well that the uninitiated get to know them pretty quick. This issue has a nice mix of action, adventure and a puzzling mystery that challenges our hero. I’m not familiar with Evely’s art, but I really like her style and it works here. Dynamite’s pulp line has been top notch, and I’m glad that Doc Savage is a part of it and in the hands of Chris Roberson.

DOC SAVAGE #1 is in stores now, or available to order at www.Dynamite.com.
