A Review: ROCKET GIRL #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of ROCKET GIRL #1 from Image Comics. Brandon Montclare writes and Amy Reeder draws.

Dayoung has gone back in time from what appears to be an alternate dimension in order to stop a corrupt corporation from building too much power. She’s a cop who is risking it all on her theories and her anonymous informants. She’s from the future and she’s wearing a rocket suit. Oh, and she’s 15 years old.

Time travel is not my favorite trope, but I like how much potential this story has. Although it appears on the surface that she has already achieved her goal, it doesn’t seem guaranteed at this point. The characters are colorful as well (in a good way). And I’d really love to see some flashbacks that show how she developed her “shining knight” attitude. The art is also just wonderful; the blend of futurist and 1980s has to be fun for Reeder to draw, and it shows.

This looks like the beginning of a really interesting “fish out of water” story. I think it’s going to be a fun ride; check this one out.

ROCKET GIRL #1 is available now at your LCS and online at imagecomics.com.
