A Review: MARS ATTACKS JUDGE DREDD #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of MARS ATTACKS JUDGE DREDD #1 from IDW Publishing. The story is by Al Ewing with art by John McCrea, colors by Jay Fotos, and lettering by Tom B. Long.

The son of the late Mega City Mafia Godfather has reappeared to take over the organization. He’s attempt is successful thanks to some “outside” (Martian) help. Meanwhile, Judge Dredd reports to the North Sectors to help with the situation going on there. He learns that crime is actually down…ever since the takeover. Fearing moles within the Sector house, Dredd decides to investigate on his own. He encounters some trouble, including a “mutant”, but he feels it’s nothing he can’t handle. He quickly realizes he might need some assistance…especially from the Pest Control Squad!

I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this book; but it’s a promising start to what could be an interesting mini-series. I’m curious to see what the Martians’ reasons are for being involved with a mob takeover. This could be fun, so I’m sticking around.

MARS ATTACKS JUDGE DREDD #1 is in stores now or available for ordering at www.IDWPublishing.com.
