A Review: TRANSFORMERS: MONSTROSITY #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of TRANSFORMERS: MONSTROSITY #1 from IDW Publishing. Chris Metzen and Flint Dille write, and Livio Ramondelli draws.

Optimus has defeated Megatron and claimed the title Prime. Not everyone is happy about this, though, or about his choice to leave Megatron alive. Megatron’s banishment to Junkion begins, and to his surprise he meets an ally. Meanwhile, a great deal is being made of a shipment of energon, with much debate as to the ownership of such.

I admit to coming to this with some reservations, and the names still fall a little strangely on my ears. But this is a well-crafted story, with several threads maintained and many seeds planted for later harvest. There’s political intrigue with Optimus and his early reign, and there’s the looming threat of Megatron, who has some potential as a villain later on. Overall it presents us real characters rather than dumb machines, and the art really helps with this presentation.

I love that this title has some long-term story potential, and it looks really good too. This one is seriously worth checking out.
