A Review: WHORE

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of WHORE from Zenescope Entertainment. Jeffrey Kaufman writes and Marco Turini draws.

Jake’s life has just gotten a little more interesting (if that’s possible). He has been cut loose by the government and is forced to take contract jobs to pay the bills. (Did I mention that he’s a wetwork operative?) At one point he even turns to a form of prostitution, though he doesn’t complain much about that job. And it all points back to a familiar face in the end.

Okay, two small disclaimers about this graphic novel. First, it is most certainly not for young readers; lots of violence and language. Second, Jake is not a nice person; his meeting with “the man” early on is a good example of that. But there’s something almost likeable about the character. The book has a sort of James Bond-esque feel to it; Jake does things that we only dream about or watch on the movie screen. And he does tend to go a bit farther than Bond ever would (at least on screen).

There’s no need to feel sorry for Jake losing his job. He’s doing just fine. And this book is an adventure from start to finish. Definitely worth checking out.

WHORE is available now at your FLCS or by order from zenescope.com.
