A Review: [re]ASSIGNMENT #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of [re]ASSIGNMENT#1 from Titan Comics’ Hard Case Crime imprint. Walter Hill, Matz, and Jef are the creators.

Frank Kitchen is a contract killer, and a well-respected one. He does the job and he does it well. It’s a job that tends to make enemies along the way, and it can be hard to know who to trust. So Frank is careful when a job comes along that seems easy and pays a little too well. But he still gets blindsided, and when he wakes up he’s playing a whole new game.

No spoilers here, but suffice it to say Frank is a very different person when he wakes up. He certainly didn’t see it coming, and it’s a novel plot twist for sure. The story sets Frank up as a very competent person who’s going to be rather upset about his new situation. The art does a very nice job with the mafia/noir style and shading, and maybe if you’re really careful you could get a hint or two as to what’s coming (very subtle stuff).

The story is dark, the action is brutal, and the villain is scary. If these things appeal to you, this is your book. It’s a good read either way, though.

[re]ASSIGNMENT #1 is available now at your local comic shop or at titan-comics.com.
