A Review: PLANET OF THE NERDS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of PLANET OF THE NERDS #1 from Ahoy Comics. The stories are written by Paul Constant; with art by Alan Robinson and Randy Elliott, colors by Felipe Sobeiro, and lettering by Rob Steen.

It’s the last day of school in 1988 and big jock Chad is once again beating up Alvin for just being a nerd. That evening Chad and Drew follow Alvin trying to figure out what he is doing. Steve, realizing what is going on, follows hoping to defuse the situation. The jocks discover Alvin is building something. Chad grabs an axe to attack Alvin, but hits the machine freezing the jocks where they stand. They wake up to find out its thirty years later…and completely surrounded by nerds. There is a backup tale that fleshes out the character Alvin and how things got to where they were in the main story.

PLANET OF THE NERDS is a fun ride as these jocks are about to enter their own personal hell: a world where geek and nerd culture is widely accepted. Paul Constant delivers a script with characters we all know (or were) at one time. The art of the events in 1988 were done to evoke classic comic art, while today has a modern fell. This was a wise decision and the execution was perfect. I’m just waiting for these guys to run into present day Alvin. I mean, if he can put together a cryogenic chamber thirty years ago…

This is another hit for Ahoy Comics. Grab it now!
