A Review: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4 from BOOM! Studios. The story is written by Jordie Bellaire; with art by Dan Mora, colors by Raúl Angulo, and lettering by Ed Dukeshire.

Fearing that Drusilla is planning something major, Giles gives Buffy the night off while he patrols in her place. It’s decided that they are going to the movies, and even Robin Wood is invited. Later that evening, Xander receives a text from Buffy saying she wants to meet him before the movie. He shows up only to realize things aren’t what they seem, and things will never be the same for the Scooby Gang…

Wow! This issue will turn the Buffy-verse upside and probably make some fans unhappy, but I’m digging this run. Jordie Bellaire is taking some chances by changing and updating the lore, but it has put new life and excitement into the franchise. At the same time she remains true to the voices created by Joss Whedon and the actors who originated the roles. Dan Mora is knocking it out of the park; he captures the likeness of the actors, yet makes everything his own. Raúl Angulo does an excellent job making sure Sunnydale is not so sunny, yet not so dark and depressing; great color scheme. It's not to late to get on board, so do it today!
