A Review: ELVIRA: THE SHAPE OF ELVIRA #2

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of ELVIRA: THE SHAPE OF ELVIRA #2 from Dynamite Entertainment. The story is written by David Avallone; with art by Fran Strukan, colors by Maxim Simic, and lettering by Taylor Esposito.

Filming begins on the movie and Elvira doesn’t know any more about her co-star than she did when she joined the project. After the first day shooting is done, there is a celebration. Elvira passes out (drugged?) and later finds her in bed with “Gill” on top of her. She decides to leave and tried to clear her head, but soon realizes that she is being followed…

It’s nothing but fun and games when you are dealing with the Mistress of the Dark and this series isn’t any different. If you are a fan, you will not be disappointed with this book, while new readers will love the humor that is pure Elvira. David Avallone capture’s her voice so well; you can hear her make the jokes and snide comments. Strukan doesn’t try to capture Cassandra Peterson’s likeness and supplies a minimal approach to the project and it’s very effective. Simic brings a washed-out color scheme that also works to great effect. All in all an entertaining book full of mystery and hijinks. This is a must for fans of Elvira or fun comics.
