A Review: BEASTS OF BURDEN: WISE DOGS AND ELDRITCH MEN #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BEASTS OF BURDEN: WISE DOGS AND ELDRITCH MEN #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Evan Dorkin writes, Benjamin Dewey draws and colors, and Nate Piekos of Blambot letters.

Smoke is rising from the forest not far from Burden Hill. Lundy and his dogs are on the case, though, and quickly handle the situation. But it’s an odd one, with a salamander caught in a magical trap. They’re on the move, though, with a lurker nest waiting for them. And Lundy and company will find when they get to that nest that something very strange is going on.

The Beasts are back, and this first issue gets us off on an exciting adventure right away. This issue also does a wonderful job of introducing us to the group, and they’re an interesting, diverse team (oh, and they’re also talking dogs). Combining such a deep, rich story with amazingly clean and expressive art makes for a delightful read.

So if you’re into a great story with developing characters and tons of action (and, oh yeah, magical dogs), you have to pick up this book. It’s just a whole lot of fun.

BEASTS OF BURDEN: WISE DOGS AND ELDRITCH MEN #1 is available now from your local comic shop, or online at darkhorse.com.
