A Review: FLAVOR #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of FLAVOR #1 from Image Comics. Joseph Keatinge writes, Wook Jin Clark draws, Tamra Bonvillain colors, Ariana Maher letters, and Ali Bouzari is the culinary consultant.

Xoo’s parents are not doing well, and their illnesses are keeping them from running their restaurant. Xoo has been ditching culinary school to help out, but that leaves her in a bad spot – she’s forbidden to run the restaurant without the proper education and credentials. Her uncle comes to stay for a while to help out, but the family is not quite sure how to solve their problems. But the shop might not be their only problem for long.

This family may be lacking in health, but Xoo makes up for it with spirit. She’s got a plan, and she’s got the will to pull it off, to make the shop succeed. She’s a strong character, and this first issue hints at some interesting story yet to come. The art is also delightful, with some amazing landscape shots and intricate color and shading.

The first few pages of this book introduce us to Xoo in delightful fashion, especially her strength and courage. The world she’s living in is just as fascinating, and I can’t wait to see more.

FLAVOR #1 is available now from your local comic shop, or online at imagecomics.com.
