A Review: NINJAK VS THE VALIANT UNIVERSE #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of NINJAK VS THE VALIANT UNIVERSE #1 from Valiant Entertainment. Eliot Rahal writes, Joe Bennett and Belardino Brabo draw, Ulises Arreola colors, and Dave Sharpe letters.

Colin is just wrapping up a mission when his debriefing is rudely interrupted. Roku is far from subtle, and this is no different. She wants Asset 147, and Colin will get it for her or his boss’ family dies. Getting the asset is no problem for Ninjak, of course, but he can’t explain to MI6 why he’s breaking in and taking it. Which leads them to call in Unity.

This first issue (of four) sets up the story beautifully. It does a delightful job of almost selling the reader that this is just a simple heist story. But once we remember the title, we know better, though the feint is masterful. The book is packed with fantastic action sequences, too, as we’ve come to expect from Valiant’s crew of brilliant artists.

The other great thing about this book is that it’s not just about comics. This is a tie-in to the highly anticipated webseries of the same name. And if this comic is any indication, I’m looking forward to the show even more now. You have to go get this book.

NINJAK VS THE VALIANT UNIVERSE #1 is available now from your local comic shop, or online at valiantuniverse.com.
