A Review: ALL NEW FATHOM #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of ALL NEW FATHOM #1 from Aspen Comics. The story is by Blake Northcott; with pencils by Marco Renna, digital inks by Mark Roslan, colors by Josh Starr, and letters by Zen.

Aspen investigates a strange acoustic coming from a sinkhole located deep in the ocean. She locates a being that refers himself as a god and things quickly get out of hand. The battle reaches to the surface, and where innocent lives are in danger. That moment that our heroine knew was coming had arrived…the world no knows of beings such as herself and her opponent. First things first Aspen: dealing with the so-called water god that’s trying to kill you!!!

First off, this was a fun little book. Blake Northcutt’s handling of the public reaction to a superhero (especially in the social media world) is dead on. The dialog is very witty; it reminds me of the early seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Longtime fans will be happy with the mystery and action and at the same a nice jump on point for new readers. As expected for the publisher, the art was top notch. The combined forces of Renna, Roslan, and Starr make each page a visual treat. I’m excited to see where things go from here. Check it out!
