A Review: WONDER WOMAN ’77 MEETS THE BIONIC WOMAN #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of WONDER WOMAN ’77 MEETS THE BIONIC WOMAN #1 from Dynamite Entertainment and DC Comics. The story is by Andy Mangels, with art by Judit Tondora, colors by Michael Bartolo & Stuart Chaifetz, and letters by Tom Orzechowski & Lois Buhalis.

All the intelligence agencies are meeting in Washington, D.C. to discuss the threat of a new paramilitary group called Castra. There is also a possibility of a member being a mole working for one of the intelligence agencies. Diana and Jamie’s assignment is to protect a scientist who appears to be Castra’s next target. Castra strikes again on different fronts, but our heroes are victorious. However, there was a cost to this victory. But questions remain: Who is the mole? Who is the leader of Castra? What is their plan? Stay tuned…

This issue literally starts with a bang and is action packed. Andy Mangels’ script definitely captures the vibe of the 70’s shows (especially the sexism). I thought it was a nice touch that Jamie automatically figures out who Wonder Woman is, but plays along. The narration boxes matching from the Wonder Woman TV show was perfect. Fans of either show or character will love this book. Check it out.
