A Review: TOE TAG RIOT #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of TOE TAG RIOT #1 from Black Mask Studios. Matt Miner writes and Sean Von Gorman draws.

Toe Tag Riot is an up-and-coming zombie-themed punk band, oozing with attitude and performing in full makeup. Except that it’s really not makeup – they turn into zombies when they perform, and they’re never really sure when the effect will wear off. The hard part is resisting the urge to feed while zombied out, and I think we can all guess where that’s going.

It seems easier to freak the crowd out with the zombie thing when the band is kind of freaked out about it too. The band members are all cool people, of course, and they’re playing CBGB, so they must be good. How they got their curse is a bit of a mystery, though. It’s an interesting take on the zombie thing, though, and I’m looking forward to seeing where they take it. The art has a lot of fun with both the zombies and the punk scene (lots of middle fingers throughout).

Zombies and punk rock seem like a natural fit, don’t they? This book is a lot of fun overall, especially if you like your mayhem cranked up to ten.

TOE TAG RIOT #1 is available on 11/26 at your FLCS or at blackmaskstudios.com.
