A Review: THE OCTOBER FACTION #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE OCTOBER FACTION #1 from IDW Publishing. Steve Niles writes and Damien Worm draws and colors.

Fredrick Allan teaches a class on monsters, and he doesn’t talk about his previous career, even to his family. His children, Vivian and Geoff, have some ideas about that, and they’re both learning all they can about magic now that they’re done with high school. Mom Deloris is not at home much; she’s out and about doing her own thing, which may prove dangerous over time. Overall they’re a pretty normal family, monster hunting notwithstanding.

The people definitely live on the dark side of life, and they embrace it pretty thoroughly. Oh sure, they have drama – what family doesn’t? In the long run, they may prove to be better at dealing with the monsters than with each other, but that will just make for a really fun story, I think. The art is just fantastic, too – check out the full-page shot of the family home in particular.

This book is chock full of story threads for an ordinary family in a really weird line of work. You’ll want to get on board now and stay on for the long haul.

THE OCTOBER FACTION #1 is available now at your FLCS or at idwpublishing.com.
