A Review: WILD'S END #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of WILD’S END #1 from BOOM! Studios. Dan Abnett writes and I.N.J. Culbard draws and colors.

Things are getting busy in the sleepy little town of Lower Crowchurch. For starters, the town has gained a new resident, a quiet chap called Clive Slipaway. He’s retired Navy, you know. But when Fawkes shows up in town babbling about a falling star, Mr. Slipaway is the only one who believes him. And things might be getting rather busy indeed.

Lower Crowchurch is an interesting little place, and this first issue shows us quite a bit of it. The people are a little different, the time period is a little hard to place, and the falling star is a fun little problem for them to solve. The art is nicely done, but for me it’s the coloring that gives it its appeal. It really makes the town itself feel like another character.

This book is a nice change of pace from all of the big scary fights and chase scenes going on out there these days. There’s a story here, and it’s just as world-changing as the others in its own way. And that’s cool.
