A Review: JIM BUTCHER’S THE DRESDEN FILES: WAR CRY #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of JIM BUTCHER’S THE DRESDEN FILES: WAR CRY #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. Jim Butcher and Mark Powers write, Carlos Gomez draws, and Mohan colors.

War has come to Harry Dresden’s world, and the good guys are losing. The Red Court is out to smash the White Council, and they’re doing a pretty decent job of it. The Council has even drafted Harry, and is putting raw recruits in the field to make up for their losses so far. Harry’s new team has been sent to evacuate a group of scholars in the Midwest, but things go sour as soon as they walk in the door.

This book continues the popular modern wizard series, and it’s quite entertaining. Harry is an irreverent wizard in an awkward leadership position, and his recruits are developed nicely in this issue. They’re also badasses, which helps in the ensuing battle, and it also helps make them likeable. Gomez does a delightful job with the vampire monsters, too, along with his usual great art.

The good stories are about the people as much if not more than the conflict, and these people are colorful and real. This looks like a great intro to the Dresden universe.

JIM BUTCHER’S THE DRESDEN FILES: WAR CRY #1 is available now at your FLCS or at dynamite.com.
