A Review: TRANSLUCID #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of TRANSLUCID #1 from Boom! Studios. Chondra Echert and Claudio Sanchez write, and Daniel Bayliss draws.

The Horse is finally out of prison, and it’s time for him to take the city back from the Apocalypse 3. The Navigator hasn’t really been bothering with them of late; he doesn’t seem to have the focus that you might expect from a superhero. But Horse has something in store for the hero, and it’s not exactly what you would expect.

This story certainly does have an interesting take on the hero-villain dynamic. I like how differently they treat the relationship; there’s a sense of dependency that doesn’t get addressed much. And there’s another story hiding underneath, one that we get only a glimpse of along the way. And I have to mention how cool the art gets when the drugs kick in.

It’s not often that we get a fresh take on the superhero genre, but this book pulls it off. I think Boom has another hit on its hands.

TRANSLUCID #1 is available now at your FLCS or at boom-studios.com.
