A Review: STAR SLAMMERS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of STAR SLAMMERS #1 from IDW Publishing. Walt Simonson writes and draws, and Len O’Grady colors.

The Star Slammers are reputedly the best mercs in the galaxy. And when they show up with three soldiers to take out an invading army, it’s hard to argue with that reputation. The price they ask is captured weaponry, and they collect it in order to prepare for their own impending war. It’s a war for which they have paid, and will pay, a huge price.

This is one of IDW’s Remastered series, which is bringing back some older independent titles and stories. Simonson’s Star Slammers originated in the early ‘80s, but never really found a publishing home. The story is pretty straightforward – interstellar mercenaries with an agenda (that I don’t want to spoil), and the first issue shows us the mercs and starts to glimpse some individual characters.

Kudos to IDW for pulling these great books out and showing them to us. This is a cool story, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of them.

STAR SLAMMERS #1 is available now at your FLCS or at idwpublishing.com.
