A Review: SHAHRAZAD #3

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of SHAHRAZAD #3 from Big Dog Ink. Kim Hutchison and Kari Castor write, Mike Krome draws and Nei Ruffino colors.

Shahrazad has been separated from her crew, lifted out of the sea by giant vultures. While the crew is doing everything they can to find her, she is introduced to Janus and his gladiatorial pit/temple. Janus is puzzled by her because he can’t see her future, but not so much that he will spare her from the pit. And the crew shows up just in time for the fighting to begin.

This series gives a really cool fantasy adventure spin on the Thousand and One Nights, making Shahrazad out as a Hercules-esque hero facing seemingly endless challenges and characters. Great dialogue and top-notch art transform that cool concept into a world that jumps off the page at the reader. This could be the beginning of a beautiful franchise, if you’ll pardon the (bad) paraphrase.

I really like where this book is heading, and unlike Janus, I see great things in Shahrazad’s future. Get on this bandwagon while it’s still early.

SHAHRAZAD #3 is available now at your FLCS or at bigdogink.com.
