The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of ROCKY
AND BULLWINKLE #1 from IDW Publishing. The stories are written Mark Evanier,
with art and lettering by Roger Langridge and colors by Jeremy Colwell.
Rocky and Bullwinkle are on their way to pick up a donation
from Louis F. Lucre. Lucre, the seventeenth richest man in the world, is paying
for the entire cost to build a new park in Frostbite Falls. Lucre is also
obsessed with the future, and how to make more money. Boris and Natasha learn
of this and use it to steal him blind. Things really get strange when an accident causes Bullwinkle to gain psychic abilities.
The second story finds Snidely Whiplash has developed cologne
that causes Nell to be more attracted to Dudley Do-Right instead of his horse.
Will the villain be finally rid of our hero so he can commit his crimes?
Wow, I laughed out loud at the jokes in this issue. Evanier
and Langridge capture the spirit of the classic cartoon, but set in today’s
world (selling smartphones to the Amish? Funny.). Similar to the show, Rocky and
Bullwinkle’s story is split in half with Dudley Do-Right’s tale in the middle. This
book is great for fans of the show, and for everybody else!
