A Review: MASK OF THE RED PANDA

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of MASK OF THE RED PANDA from IDW Publishing and Monkeybrain Comics. The story is by Gregg Taylor, with art, colors, and letters by Dean Kotz.

Red Panda and The Flying Squirrel are investigating what appears to be the latest in a series of arson fires. The problem is this incident is more mystical in nature. Their investigation of the explosion and the owner of the business draw attention of interested parties. Can our heroes find the amulet (the object that everyone wants) and solve this mysterious case, or are they over their heads?

Pulp heroes are becoming more popular these days and Red Panda (and The Flying Squirrel) are worthy additions to the genre. The duo originally came from a faux-radio show "Decoder Ring Theater" podcast several years ago. What I really love about this book is while this is a dark tale; the witty interaction between our heroes doesn’t make it feel that way. Kotz’s style and use of colors is very appealing and beautiful to look at. I want to see more of these two!

MASK OF THE RED PANDA is in stores now, or available to order at www.IDWPublishing.com.
