A Review: LOBSTER JOHNSON: GET THE LOBSTER #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of LOBSTER JOHNSON: GET THE LOBSTER #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Mike Mignola and John Arcudi write, Tonci Zonjic draws, and Dave Stewart colors.

A pair of pro wrestlers are on a violent crime spree. Lobster’s on the case, but so are the cops, and they don’t always see eye to eye. Also, someone from Lobster’s past is working to expose him. And some other unpleasant fellows are watching the situation very carefully.

Pulp heroes have been making a comeback lately. Lobster is a great example of that style of comics. Set in the 1930s, secret hideout, secret identity, network of allies, it’s all there. And it works really well. I like that Mignola isn’t just rehashing the old pulp heroes – he has created his own. He also has a great sense of that era, and the art, with its dark colors, does too.

Masked heroes, over-the-top villains, and great adventure are all over this title. Check it out – it’s a great read.

LOBSTER JOHNSON: GET THE LOBSTER #1 is available now at your FLCS and online at darkhorse.com.
