A Review: DOCTOR WHO CLASSICS #3

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of DOCTOR WHO CLASSICS #3 from IDW Publishing. The story is by Richard Starkings, script by John Tomlinson, art by Lee Sullivan, colors by Charlie Kirchoff, and lettering by Zed. The story was originally printed in DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE issues #152-154.

The Doctor, who is trying to reach Maruthea, finds himself on a planet called Hell. The name is accurate as the planet is controlled by Daleks! They need the Helkans to produce Helkogen to help complete the Dalek Death Wheel to complete their quest for conquering the galaxy. The Doctor finds an unexpected ally in Abslom Daak, Dalek Killer! Can the two of them stop the evil robots’ plan? Will they get help from the Helkans?

The plot is not unsimilar to other tales I have read, but it is still pretty good. I like the concept of there being someone whose whole purpose in life is to destroy Daleks. I can’t say how well Mr. Starkings captures the voice of this version of the Doctor as I haven’t seen any episodes that starred Sylvester McCoy.
