A Review: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. The story is by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, with art by Cezar Razek, colors by Vinicius Townsend, and lettering by Simon Bowland.

It’s the anniversary of the destruction of the twelve colonies and as usual Commander Adama wakes from the nightmare of that day and what he has loss personally. As the ceremony is going on, several Basestars appear and attack the fleet. The warriors man their vipers and put up a valiant fight, but are overwhelmed. It was then that Doctor Zee request permission to use the vipers he’s redesigned using weapons that are outlawed. With no other choice, Adama reluctantly agrees and assigns Starbuck and Apollo to the new ships. When the Galactica suffers a critical hit, things really go from bad to worse!

I’m a fan of classic BSG and enjoy the work of Abnett and Landing. So needless to say I’ve been waiting for this book to come out. Totally worth the wait! The series apparently bridges the first and second season (later known as GALACTICA 1980). Not too familiar with Cezar Razek, but his art is great. I love the design of the experimental vipers and he handles the action well. This book is worth it if you are a fan.
