A Review: THE COLONIZED #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE COLONIZED #1 from IDW Publishing. Chris Ryall writes and Drew Moss draws.

Captain Bemis is not having a good day. The planet he’s surveying is not quite ideal, between the filthy atmosphere and the creature they’ve pulled up from the surface. And things don’t really get any better once they land in front of a group of armed natives. But the natives (a bunch of separatists led by Hux Robinson) don’t react well to the aliens or the zombie that jumps out of their flying saucer. A strange day indeed.

This is one of those stories where it’s not immediately obvious who the good guys are. I mean, Hux seems to be one, but he doesn’t really seem to be in charge (yet). And the aliens seem almost like victims of circumstance (note the subtle Stooges reference there). It takes a really good writer to pull that off, too. Fortunately, in my experience Ryall can do it. And it ought to be a fun ride getting there.

Aliens, zombies, survivalists, and a whole lot of unanswered questions. A really nice first issue, in other words. I’m going to enjoy this one, and so should you, if you know what I mean.

THE COLONIZED #1 is available now at your FLCS or by order at idwpublishing.com.
