A Review: THE VICTORIES #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE VICTORIES #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Michael Avon Oeming writes and draws.

Faustus is a member of the superteam The Victories. He’s quick, he’s tough, he’s witty. He’s got it all—or does he? He’s also a bit of a tortured soul, never sure he’s good enough. And the death of the judge isn’t helping. And now an enemy, the Jackal, is claiming that he can help Faustus do more for the world he’s fighting for.

Our hero has a fitting name; it certainly looks like he’s ready to make a deal with the devil. We’ve seen this type of hero before, but to have one actually seek this kind of help from a villain is an interesting twist. And this is a whole new group of people to get to know, so there’s lots of potential for characterization and story. To start with, it will be fun to learn what Jackal’s plan is in dealing with Faustus; what will he get out of the deal?

This is a new world, with new good guys, new bad guys, and maybe not as much distinction between them as one might expect. I think this new world could be fun to explore.

THE VICTORIES #1 is available now at your FLCS or by order from darkhorse.com.
