A Review: VAMPIRELLA ANNUAL #2

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of VAMPIRELLA ANNUAL #2 from Dynamite Comics. Mark Rahner and Jay Faerber wrote the stories. The art is by Ilias Kyriazis, Dub with Djief, and Louis Parados.

In “Bloodsuckers Dusk,” Vampirella reluctantly takes on an assistant while investigating the disappearances around the town of Spoons, Washington. Someone (or something) is preying on the fans of the Gloaming books and movies. Vampi must attend a convention in hopes of resolving the mystery.

In “Lust” (originally published in VAMPIRELLA TRICK & TREAT 2004), Vampirella must deal with her friend Pantha, who has contracted some disease that is starting to affect humans as well.

This was a fun little read. I laughed seeing how Vampirella deals with the concept of vampires that sparkle and the fandom that loves that particular book and movie franchise. This is what I enjoy about annuals - a good story that is self-contained. Kyriazis’ art is very nice – contrasting Vampirella’s beauty to the violence of the other vampires. The backup story is good as well, but it would have been nice to have a “previously” page to understand what has happened leading up to it. All in all, a good book.

VAMPIRELLA ANNUAL #2 is in stores now and available at www.dynamite.net.
