A Review: FAFNIR THE DRAGON

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of FAFNIR THE DRAGON from Arcana Comics. Thormod Skald writes and Asta Gunn is the artist.

There’s a dragon on the loose, searching for something, and the military doesn’t seem to know quite how to deal with it. So they send in Atomica, “the world’s greatest superhero” and media darling, to attempt to capture it. There’s an epic battle, a lot of carnage, and a bit of a wardrobe malfunction before all is said and done.

This book gives us an interesting combination—the beginning of a grand-scale epic fantasy and a comedic superhero story. The satire is really cranked up to 11 here, with an outrageously controlling military, an image-conscious atomic-powered protagonist, and a less-than-proper English lady. But it’s so over-the-top that I can’t help but laugh with it. As crazy as it is, it’s just plain fun.

So if you’re into hardcore mockery of public figures and a rollicking good dragon battle, this is the book for you. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

FAFNIR THE DRAGON is available now at your FLCS or by order from arcana.com.
