A Review: MADAME FRANKENSTEIN #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of MADAME FRANKENSTEIN #1 from Image Comics. Jamie S. Rich writes and Megan Levens draws.

Dr. Krall has done it – he has successfully reanimated the corpse of a human. She lives, but she doesn’t seem to have any memory of her life or of how she died. Krall is obviously more than just a country doctor, too, and he has a larger plan in mind for bringing this woman back to life.

This first issue focuses on Gail’s “birth” pretty heavily, but it’s clear that there’s more to it than that. Krall’s plan is a mystery to us, at least for now. And the allies he speaks with in the field should prove very interesting. The art in this book is absolutely stunning; the landscapes and backgrounds give the book its own character, and that’s no easy feat in black & white.

Is this a new take on an old classic? Or is it an entirely different story from another time, or another place? It’s completely wide open, but this is certainly a delightful start. You’ll want to get in on this at the beginning.

MADAME FRANKENSTEIN #1 is available now at your FLCS or at imagecomics.com.
