A Review: THE BOYS #68

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE BOYS #68 from Dynamite Entertainment. Garth Ennis writes, and Russ Braun draws.

The Boys are the team that the world turns to when supers go bad. In this issue, the team has discovered that one of their own has gone bad, and is plotting to destroy the entire supers population. They’ve put all of the pieces of his plan together, and now they’re trying to decide what to do about it. Fortunately (or maybe not) Butcher makes the decision easier for them.

This issue is smack in the middle of a story arc, so the fact that there’s a lot of exposition here isn’t surprising. But I found it helpful in that it helped me sort of catch up in the arc. I like the idea that the normals should be concerned with what happens when a super crosses the line, and this book gives off a ‘black ops’ feel which makes perfect sense to me.

I really like the sense of characterization this issue gives off, and the story is a compelling one (Garth Ennis is a hot name right now, and for good reason). Overall this is a well-constructed book.

THE BOYS #68 is available now at your FLCS or by order from dynamite.net.
