A Review: FARMHAND #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of FARMHAND #1 from Image Comics. Rob Guillory writes and draws, Taylor Wells colors, and Kody Chamberlain letters.

Zeke hasn’t been home to the family farm in several years. The family farm is not exactly a normal farm, though – dad Jed is the one who discovered how to grow human organs in soil. It’s a huge leap for medical science, but a bit of a risk for corporate espionage. Zeke is ready to be a family again, and his kids like the place. But is he really ready for this?

Oh man, there is a ton of stuff going on in this first issue. It moves pretty fast, even though it’s one whole day in their lives. The setup work in this book is amazing, with hints flying every way possible, it seems. A lot of promises are made by the story, and the art is very well done, equally comfortable with Zeke’s mundane family and the darker side of Jed’s “farm life.”

There’s a lot to look forward to in this story, with enough possibilities to make your head spin (like who is the kid? and what’s Andrea’s role on the farm?). This book is going to be a whole lot of fun in a whole lot of ways.

FARMHAND #1 is available now from your local comic shop, or online at imagecomics.com.
