A Review: PAKLIS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of PAKLIS #1 from Image Comics. Dustin Weaver writes, draws, colors, and letters.

Tara is a starfighter pilot in the middle of a war zone. She’s on a recon mission when she finds an unknown alien in the center of what looks like a meteor strike. Its name is Amnia, and it’s seeking to return to its ship. Tara feels like she knows Amnia, so she tries to help. And so begins an epic quest to find the ship, then to find Amnia when it goes missing.

The Amnia story is the biggest of three stories in this massive anthology-like first issue. Greg sees insects everywhere (or does he?), and Rad is a war hero trying to find his lost father (who might not be lost?). All three stories are compelling, with interesting twists (or plot elements, depending on how you read them). And the art is fascinating in that each story has its own style, each very different from the others.

There’s a ton of cool sci-fi in this book (and no small amount of horror, really). And for my money, this is one of the best written books so far this year. Don’t miss your chance to pick it up.

PAKLIS #1 is available now from your local comic shop, or online at imagecomics.com.
