A Review: WEIRD LOVE #17

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of WEIRD LOVE #17 from IDW Publishing and Joe Books. The stories and art are by various creators. The collection was edited by Clizia Gussoni and Craig Yoe.

“Foolish Revenge” – Faye is failing English, and decides to get revenge on her attractive teacher. Will her plan backfire, or will she taste the sweetness of vengeance?

“Teacher’s Pet” – Bob’s a substitute teacher is a knockout and finds him attractive as well. Will they go down that forbidden road and find romance?

“High School Affair” – Mr. Dryden is the new English teacher and Julia is infatuated with him. He eventually falls for her as well. However Julia’s boyfriend Chuck doesn’t like the situation. Will there be a happy ending?

“Too Young To Love” – Maureen falls for Duncan, the school engineer. She is ready to spend the rest of her life with him; until she finds out his secret. Things go downhill from here I’m afraid.

“Lesson in Heartbreak” – Carol falls for the new English teacher and Drama coach Mr. Hurley. Unfortunately for her, she has competition from Miss Barton…

“A Man Half My Age” – Miss Collins is teaching at a new school. She quickly falls in love with her student Denny. Fellow teacher Mr. Tindall, who also is interested in Miss Collins, threatens to ruin her happiness…

This issue of WEIRD LOVE goes to school in a series of teacher/student affairs. Seems crazy now, but it appears to be a plot that was used quite a bit back in the day of Romance comics. While tales probably wouldn’t be used as much now, they are a lot of melodramatic fun with nice art. It’s worth checking out for nothing else but nostalgic purposes.
