A Review: RED SONJA #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of RED SONJA #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. The story is by Amy Chu, with art by Carlos Gomez, colors by Mohan, and letters by Simon Bowland.

It’s January 2017 and New York has a new visitor…Red Sonja! Through the dark magic of Kulan Gath, our heroine has been transported to present day. But for what purpose? Alone in a strange world, Sonja must figure out how to survive and find a way back home…if she can.

Interesting first issue. The “Stranger in a Strange Land” is a new scenario in the proper Red Sonja continuity if I’m not mistaken (it’s happen quite a bit with her crossovers). Amy Chu’s script moves at a pretty good pace and raising a ton of questions besides how does our heroine get back home. There’s a few surprises here as well (no spoilers here). Officer Max obviously will be Sonja’s support while she is in present day; especially since he can understand (somewhat) her language. Top notch work from Carlos Gomez, Mohan and Bowland. I’m curious to see where this goes and how long Red Sonja will in the present.

RED SONJA #1 is in stores now or available at www.dynamite.com.
