A Review: FREELANCE BLUES #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of FREELANCE BLUES #1 from Alterna Comics. Ian Daffern and Mike Leone write, and Vicki Tierney draws.

Lance is a guy who has a hard time holding down a job. This has more to do with the monsters than anything else – everywhere he goes, monsters eventually show up. He’s gotten pretty good at fighting them, but the high turnover rate makes it hard to take care of his little sisters. And now that he’s found a good job (with a cute coworker), a different kind of monster appears in his life.

Lance is a good guy, and he dotes on the twins. But he’s one of those who just can’t catch a break. He also doesn’t seem to have any super powers, other than attracting the monsters. So his success at fighting the monsters makes this story doubly compelling (I’m not spoiling the other problem). I really like the art, too, with its attention to detail and use of controlled chaos in the fight scenes.

This is a story about a guy who really needs a win in his life. Follow along with him, and let’s see if he gets it this time.

FREELANCE BLUES #1 is available now at your FLCS or at alternacomics.com.
