A Review: ESCAPE FROM MONSTER ISLAND #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of ESCAPE FROM MONSTER ISLAND #1 from Zenescope Entertainment. The story is by Ralph Tedesco and Joe Brusha, written by Joe Tyler. The art is by Carlos Granda, colors by Jorge Cortes and lettering by Fabio Amelia.

MASI is an island that contains unique and dangerous creatures kept there for study and safety of the world. Five years ago, there was a disaster and the scientists were force to abandon the site. On the eve of the force field (the only thing preventing the monsters from leaving) goes down for good, a team is assembled to go back and retrieve important research material. It’s not as simple as it sounds…

On the surface the premise is nothing new, but it’s what’s underneath that has my curiosity. The mercenary team seems to be what you expect: “been there, done that and kick its butt.” That will change. Really want to know more about how the island came to be and the “research” that was being done. Expect a ton of fast-paced action and violence in the remainder of the series. The book is worth checking out.

ESCAPE FROM MONSTER ISLAND #1 is in stores now, or available for ordering at www.zenescope.com.
