A Review: MAN PLUS #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of MAN PLUS #1 from Titan Comics. Andre Lima Araujo writes and draws, Arsia Rozegar colors, and Tom Williams letters.

In the near future, Rodrigo and his SOF team (they’re cops) are called in on a seemingly random street attack. They find a couple of civilians and a couple of corporate cyborg thugs dead, and the local security video shows a lone android as the perp. The team swings into action, processing the scene and working the tech in the cyborg. Then they get a signal on the android and track it down, where it poses them an interesting dilemma.

This first issue really has the police procedural thing down pat; it really sells the “CSI” feel, down to the specialized team members and the businesslike attitudes. But the other cool part is how it manages to personalize the android – it’s very subtle, but you’ll find yourself almost feeling sorry for the machine. It’s very well done, and it shows an impressive connection between writing and art that a lot of books can only hope to find.

This is a fast-paced story in a slick-looking future city, and it still centers around the characters (like most good stories do). It’s definitely worth checking out.

MAN PLUS #1 is available now at your FLCS or at titan-comics.com.
