A Review: THE LAST CONTRACT #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE LAST CONTRACT #1 from BOOM! Studios. Ed Brisson writes and letters, Lisandro Estherren draws, and Niko Guardia colors.

He’s a quiet old dude who retired to small-town Canada with his dog. He forgets things now and then, but he’s still pretty spry. Then a lowlife thug breaks into his house, bringing his past life back to him like a ton of bricks. The thug was sent by an old crime boss he’s never heard of (or doesn’t remember), and it seems that he’s on a list of “loose ends” somewhere. And he doesn’t like that one bit.

There’s a certain appeal to “coming out of retirement” stories. They often highlight generational differences and can present a wide array of changing themes. And they usually include some display of skill and experience. The skill that our man shows off is killing people, and he’s really good at it. This is a cool story about having something to lose, and the art is emotionally expressive beyond just the faces.

Our man may not remember every detail around him, but he has certainly not forgotten how to kick some ass. And I think we’re going to see a lot more of it in this series. Pick it up today.

THE LAST CONTRACT #1 is available now at your FLCS or at boom-studios.com.
