A Review: THE EIGHTH SEAL #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of THE EIGHTH SEAL #1 from IDW Publishing. James Tynion IV writes, Jeremy Rock draws, Nolan Woodard colors, and Troy Peteri letters.

Visions, hallucinations, whatever you want to call them – Amelia’s are getting worse. She turns into a monster and destroys everything. And she enjoys it. The meds aren’t working, as far as she can tell, but she takes them anyway. She’s trying to tell herself it will all be fine. She tells that to her husband the President, too, but does she even believe it herself?

This entire issue is really nicely set up so that we’re not sure what to believe. So many questions, such as “is the monster real?” and “can she really control it?” and “can the First Lady really feed her Chief of Staff to alligators?” The layers of this story have layers, and that’s just fine with me. The art is also amazing, especially with the high degree of realism contrasted with the truly horrible monster.

This book certainly has an interesting twist on the monster story (and maybe some hidden meaning in the title). I know I’ll be following it with great interest.

THE EIGHTH SEAL #1 is available now at your FLCS or at idwpublishing.com.
