A Review: KAPTARA #1

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of KAPTARA #1 from Image Comics. Chip Zdarsky and Kagan McLeod are the creators, and Becka Kinzie colors.

Keith is a bioengineer who managed to talk his way onto a manned mission to Mars. The crew of the ship finds a sort of tunnel in an asteroid field, and when it mysteriously sucks the ship into it, the ship takes damage and the crew has to take to the escape pods. Fortunately they’re close to a planet and can land safely. The local flora is rather strange, but has nothing on the local fauna, and when Keith wakes up from that, he’s in a place he could never have imagined.

Keith is a good lead character for this book; there’s obviously a lot to learn about him, and he hides it behind snark and attitude. He’s not much of an action hero, though, so he should probably keep being funny and smart. He’s also presented several mysteries by the end of this issue, and unraveling them will make for cool stories. The art is really well done, too, with some great wide shots and nice alien landscapes.

Now Keith has a strange new world to explore. Pick up this book and learn about it along with him.
