A Review: USAGI YOJIMBO: SENSO #2

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of USAGI YOJIMBO: SENSO #2 from Dark Horse Comics. The story is written and drawn by Stan Sakai. The cover colors are by Tom Luth.

The battle between Lords Noriyuki and Hikiji has suddenly come to an end due to a rocket crashing nearby. The wounded forces regroup and speculate about the giant object. Lord Hikiji and his guards ride up to the rocket, but quickly regret that move. That night, Chizu does reconnaissance and discovers beings within the rocket building…something. Chizu returns to camp and reports. Lord Noriyuki devises a dangerous plan, but will it work? Or will there be more bloodshed?

There are two words that best describes Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo: quality and magical. You always get a great story with characters that you care about. The jumping twenty years into the future and the arrival of aliens feels natural, which surprised me and speaks to Mr. Sakai’s style. And of course there’s his beautiful artwork.  You don’t have to be a longtime reader of Usagi Yojimbo to enjoy this mini-series, but warning: it could make you one.

USAGI YOJIMBO: SENSO #2 is in stores now, or available for ordering at www.darkhorse.com.
